In April, Winston Warren Smith, 39, was involved in a bar fight with a 64-year-old man that rapidly escalated and ended with his victim being airlifted from the Lexington Park business to an area hospital.

According to the state's attorney's office, this week, Smith pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree murder, and he now faces a 30-year prison term.

The sheriff's office determined that Smith and his victim got into an argument that escalated into a physical altercation that resulted in his victim being stabbed multiple times.

"After a verbal argument turned physical, both Smith and the victim were asked to leave the bar," prosecutors said. "Smith exited the establishment first.

"Once the victim made it outside, Smith and an accomplice attacked the victim, and Smith stabbed the victim multiple times with a knife."

Deputies from the St. Mary's Sheriff's Office were called to the area to investigate, where they found the man suffering from multiple stab wounds before he was airlifted to shock trauma.

All of the violence was ultimately tied to a disagreement over a spilled drink.

Smith is being held without bond pending his sentencing, when he will face three decades in prison.
